The city of Springfield's new Fire Station No. 13 has officially been dedicated.
City officials cut the ribbon this morning on the $3.7 million, nearly 6,400-square-foot fire station at 1900 W. College St. The ceremony was livestreamed on the Springfield Fire Department's Facebook page.
"Fire Station 13 was made possible for our community, by our community," SFD Chief David Pennington said at the event, pointing to the city's level property tax.
Pennington said the fire station became operational in March. Construction has wrapped up since then, according to past reporting, with DeWitt & Associates Inc. serving as general contractor.
"I think what this does today is signify to our community that public safety is a priority," Mayor Ken McClure said at the event.
Plaza Shopping Center gained an arcade with the March 1 opening of The Flying Lap LLC; the repurposing of space operated by Burrell Behavioral Health resulted in the March 18 opening of the company’s second autism center; and a group of downtown business owners teamed up to reopen J.O.B. Public House.
