“I think it’s really clear that if a private citizen who’s not wearing any type of uniform or anything — if they’re holding a weapon during an active shooter incident, it’s very volatile situation for both the officers and that person,” says Eric Schroeder, acting Corporal with the Springfield Police Department. Schroeder says he hopes that an armed citizen, who is trying to help, would understand the potential danger involved. In an active-shooter situation, law-enforcement officers might not be able to differentiate between the suspect and a good guy with a gun.
