50 federal agents head to STL to combat violent crime

Posted online

The federal government is sending 50 law enforcement agents to St. Louis to combat violent crime.

Part of "Operation Legend," the agents will be deployed to the most distressed neighborhoods in the city, with a focus on active shooters, homicides and gangs.

Jeff Jensen, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, said the operation is "not riot police officers wearing fatigues."

"This is purely a violent crime effort and effort to reduce the terrible murder rate we have seen lately. Fifty-three murders in July in a city of 300,000 people," he said.
