Airfares predicted to fall from late August until holidays

Domestic airfare is expected to drop 25% later this month for a round trip ticket from its peak price in May.

The average price will be $286 at that time, versus a $400 price tag this spring. Airfare is expected to remain at or below $300 through September before rising again in the fall to peak at over $390 in mid- to late December.

A market correction is credited with lowering prices.
