City hires BRP’s Rosenbury for new position

Posted online

The city of Springfield hired Tim Rosenbury, a partner at BRP Architects, for the newly created role of director of quality of place initiatives.

Rosenbury is scheduled to start at the city on March 2. Yesterday, he announced his retirement from BRP Architects, and he’s currently withdrawing as a shareholder in the company, according to a news release from the city.

“We think we may be among the first cities in the country to create a director of quality of place initiatives position, and we are confident that Tim will help us collectively transform our community into an even more highly desired place to live, work and visit,” City Manager Jason Gage said in the release.

In the position, Rosenbury will be a member of the city’s leadership team, reporting directly to Gage’s office. He’s slated to be paid $115,000 annually for the position that’s tasked with managing the integration of placemaking strategies into the city’s infrastructure project development and policy formation efforts, according to the release.

Slated to wrap up his second term on the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education in April, Rosenbury said the work at the city is “urgent and important.”

“I welcome the responsibility, and I look forward to collaborating with our city leadership, our citizens and staff to make Springfield a community of choice, in my case by the way the public-built environment is experienced,” he said in the release.

Rosenbury previously served on the Vision 20/20 Center City Focus Group. In his new role, he’ll assist the city as it executes its Forward SGF planning process, including the daylighting of Jordan Creek.

For Springfield Business Journal’s 2020 economic outlook issue, Springfield Planning and Development Director Mary Lilly Smith said quality of place would be a big factor in economic development this year.

Rosenbury in 1984 joined the 1978-founded BRP Architects. His LinkedIn profile states he became a partner in 1986.

At BRP, Rosenbury leads the firm along with Managing Partner Christopher Swan, founding partner Geoffrey Butler and partners Mike Harned, Gerri Kielhofner, Benjamin Van Eps and Angie Way, according to the company’s website.

BRP ranked No. 2 on SBJ’s 2019 list of the largest architectural firms, with 10 architects. The company reported a 2018 project market value of $170 million for the list published in March 2019.
