“My father started it in 1948 after returning home from World War II,” says Ron Kinney with Kinney Vending, Amusement, and Billiards Company. Kinney’s mother and father used GI money to open a ten seat lunch counter with a pinball machine and jukebox. The coin-operated machines brought in more money than the lunch counter. “They continued to buy more coin-op equipment and pretty soon had a really nice route,” Kinney says. Emily Kinney Carroll says when her parents took over, they continued to grow the company by expanding into vending machines.
