CoxHealth makes senior-level promotions

Posted online

CoxHealth made a trio of executive promotions.

Max Buetow, Brock Shamel and Dr. Shawn Usery have been appointed to new roles, according to a news release.

“I feel it’s very important to be intentional about growing our next generation of leaders and balance opportunity for growth with seasoned expertise," CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards said in the release. "We must also look to the future, and part of ensuring we’re prepared to serve our patients in years to come is developing the right people in the right places."

Buetow, a health care system employee since 2012, was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of CoxHealth's hospital services line. CoxHealth's former vice president of Cox Medical Group over clinic and physician services, Buetow in his new role has responsibility for all health care system hospitals and reports directly to Edwards.

Shamel was chosen to succeed Buetow as vice president of Cox Medical Group, according to the release. Shamel, a CoxHealth employee since 2010, will oversee the health care system's roughly 80 clinics in the region.

Usery was promoted to chief medical officer for all of CoxHealth after previously holding that title over CoxHealth’s Community Hospital Group. He was promoted to his previous CMO role in 2017.

Usery is succeeding Dr. Frank Romero, who decided to return to patient care, said CoxHealth spokesperson Kaitlyn McConnell.

She declined to disclose the executives' salaries.
