“External-facing systems are always the jumping off point,” says Dallas Nash, a speaker at Evangel University's Cybersecurity and Ethics Symposium and Senior Regional Manager with Dell. Whether it’s your business or home, the more connectivity you have, the greater the vulnerability. Nash cites a case where hackers used an HVAC system with an internet of things IP address to gain access to the segregated financial network inside the company. “As you start introducing internet connected technologies, it means there’s that much more of a footprint to expose and attack against inside your own home,” Nash says.
