The Riksha, a downtown staple for nearly three decades, is changing hands.

Owners Savan and Kim Yim are retiring, effective Oct. 30, the restaurant announced via Facebook yesterday. The business will pass to their nephew, Scott Kong, who’s purchasing the restaurant, said Sophorn Yim, a spokesperson for The Riksha.

"After 27 years of serving the Springfield community and building lasting friendships with their customers, the time has finally come for Savan and Kim to hang up their aprons and retire," the Facebook post reads. "There’s one thing that is certain, and that is how grateful they are for all of your support."

The Chinese restaurant at 222 Park Central North is located along Olive Street just north of the square. It's known for cashew chicken and other daily specials.

Sophorn Yim said the restaurant may be closed briefly as Kong takes over ownership. The new owner plans to add debit cards and update the menus, Yim said.
