Evangel president sets new retirement date

Evangel University President Carol Taylor plans to retire at the end of the semester after first announcing her planned exit earlier this year.

Taylor had been scheduled to retire in August, but she agreed to postpone her plans when asked by the Evangel Board of Trustees amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a delay in finding her successor, according to a news release.

She's now scheduled to work her last day as Evangel president on Nov. 25. The board has resumed its search for the next school president, according to the release.

“I’m so proud of this extraordinary community and how it has served and continues to thrive even through a very difficult time," Taylor said in the release. “It has been a privilege to finish my career at my alma mater, and I’m excited to see Evangel continue to thrive and produce outstanding graduates who serve our community, nation and world.”

A 1973 Evangel graduate, Taylor was hired in 2013 to take over for nearly 40-year leader Robert Spence, who died in February at age 84.

Taylor officially took over as president in May 2014 after serving for a year as president-elect. As she was coming on board, Evangel completed its consolidation with Central Bible College and Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

During her tenure, Evangel reached nearly $40 million in donations and grants, with alumni engagement more than doubling, according to the release.
