Flooring company builds new storefront

Flooring Systems Inc. is developing a new storefront on Kearney Street six miles west of its current building.

The commercial flooring business is planning to move into its nearly 15,000-square-foot storefront at the corner of West Kearney Street and North Golden Avenue in April, said company Vice President Greg Young.

The $1 million project at 3038 W. Kearney St. will result in an approximately 3,000-square-foot expansion from the company’s current space.

“We’ve outgrown our current location, and we’re looking for a more modern setup,” Young said.

Flooring Systems has leased its current space at 3525 E. Kearney St. for an undisclosed rate for six years. The St. Louis-based company also has a store in Farmington that specializes in residential flooring services.

Dock Brothers Construction Co. was hired on as general contractor along with project architect BRP Architects.

Young said the Springfield store currently employs 60 people and he expects to add 10 employees after the move.

Flooring Systems offers carpet, wood and ceramic flooring, according to its website. Young said the local store works mainly with health care, education and retail companies.
