Jorge Perez, a former Missouri hospital leader, was convicted this week for his role in a $1.4 billion billing scheme.
Perez, who now resides in Miami, Florida, allegedly conspired with Ricardo Perez, also of Miami, and others to bill for unnecessary laboratory services.
Jorge Perez previously served as CEO of Kansas City-based EmpowerHMS, a hospital operator that had struggled to pay bills when it sold 10-year contracts to manage 13 of its hospitals to a Miami company in 2019.
