Project description: An elementary school building without a gym? That is being remedied before next school year at Schofield Elementary in the Republic School District, where construction is about 40% complete on a combination gymnasium and high-wind shelter. According to the district’s construction update website, precast panels are set, the underground rough-in is complete, and the main concrete slab floor is set. Next up: masonry walls, framing of corridor walls, roofing and electrical rough-in, the website states. Republic school officials say they anticipate an influx of 500 new students in the next three years due to community growth. Voters passed a $16 million bond issue on April 6 to pay for the Schofield Elementary project, as well as a new early childhood center, currently 30% completed, and the purchase of land to build a new school within about four years.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
