Georgia taxpayers can claim fetuses as dependents on state taxes

A fetus can now be claimed as a dependent for Georgia taxpayers.

The Georgia Department of Revenue announced it will recognize any unborn child with a detectable heartbeat as being eligible for a $3,000 dependent exemption on the state’s individual income tax.

Taxpayers who were at least six weeks pregnant July 20 through Dec. 31, 2022, can claim the fetus if they submit relevant medical records or other supporting documentation as proof.
