Springfield homebuilder Rusty MacLachlan is officially in the running for one of the Greene County Commission’s three seats.
MacLachlan of MacLachlan Construction Co. Inc. announced in a news release he’s seeking the District 1 associate commissioner seat currently held by Harold Bengsch.
“Our community has seen tremendous growth over the past several decades, which has made Greene County a great place to live. My family’s history in the construction industry dates back over 200 years,” MacLachlan said in the release. “In order for Greene County to grow into a safer and more successful community, we need increased leadership from the private sector, rather than from the courthouse or statehouse.”
A Republican, MacLachlan already has registered his campaign with the Missouri Ethics Commission, Springfield Business Journal reported last month.
For his campaign’s October quarterly report filed Oct. 15 with the MEC, MacLachlan reported $23,350 in cash on hand. The largest contribution reported in the filing was $2,000 from Matt Bailey, managing member of general contractor BP Builders LLC.
Bengsch, who’s also a Republican, reported $5,036 in cash on hand for the October quarterly report, according to an MEC filing. No donors were reported in the filing.
State Rep. Sonya Anderson, also a Republican, is the other candidate listed for the county’s District 1 commissioner seat. Scheduled to term out next year in the state House of Representatives, Anderson had $6,907 in cash on hand for her commissioner bid in the October quarterly period. Her top donors, St. Louis-based ViceRoy PAC and Grover, North Carolina-based Cheyenne International LLC, each contributed $1,000 during the quarterly period, according to the filing.
Incumbent John Russell, a Republican, and Cecil Ince, a Libertarian, are seeking the District 2 seat. The presiding commissioner role held by Bob Dixon isn’t up for vote.
Ince’s campaign did not report cash on hand in its October quarterly report. Russell didn’t file a report, according to MEC records.
The candidates are scheduled to face off in the Aug. 4, 2020, primaries.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
