IBM, McDonald's to serve up automated drive-thru lanes

McDonald's entered a strategic partnership with IBM to accelerate the development of automated drive-thru lanes.

The agreement calls for IBM to buy McD Tech Labs, a company unit that's been working on artificial intelligence-enabled voice recognition for automated ordering.

McD Tech Labs was created following the fast-food chain's purchase of Apprente in 2019.
