Springfield, MO
A third-generation, family-owned business with 65 years of experience in the Springfield area is changing its name and moving its operations.
Jenkins Diesel Power Inc. will become Jenkins Truck Center with a new building currently under construction at 5376 W. State Hwy. 266, company officials say. Once completed in March 2021, the Jenkins family plans to move to the city’s west side from the northeast.
The Western Star truck franchise currently operates at its original location, 1845 E. Blaine St., where Ed Jenkins started the business. Jenkins Diesel sells a variety of heavy-duty trucks, such as tractor-trailers, dump trucks and logging trucks, as well as school buses. It originally opened strictly as a repair shop, said Jason Jenkins, grandson of Ed Jenkins and a company co-owner.
But after decades of expanding, to the point where the company represented brands including GMC and Ford, Ed’s sons, Jim and Dan, along with Jason, decided to rebrand and relocate the business. Jim Jenkins said the new site increases visibility and consolidates truck sales, parts and service into one building.
The general contractor is Keltners Construction & Excavating LLC, and the project architect is Place Makers LLC. The Jenkinses declined to disclose the estimated construction cost.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
