The Missouri Job Center next month plans to relocate its north-side office to The Fairbanks.
The relocation to the 1126 N. Broadway Ave. community resource hub is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 3. The Job Center office has operated at the Cox North tower since launching in November 2016, according to a news release.
Job Center spokesperson Katherine Trombetta said the new 991-square-foot space is about 1,000 square feet less than its current location. She said the lease rate would be 50% less than its current expense, though she declined to disclose financial terms.
"The new location is a better utilization of space to fit the needs of our customers," Trombetta said via email. "The move will also allow us to be more intentional in how we serve the residents of Zone 1 and will enhance our existing partnerships as well as create more opportunities to partner with new organizations."
The north-side office has yet to reopen after closing temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Job Center's Springfield office at 2900 E. Sunshine St. and its Branson location at 2720 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway already have restarted operations, according to past reporting.
At The Fairbanks, the Job Center joins tenants including Springfield Community Gardens, Redeemer Church and the Missouri Mentoring Partnership. The Fairbanks also is home to The Northwest Project and the Drew Lewis Foundation, which assist residents living in poverty in northwest Springfield.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
