Mastercard has ended the use of its cards on pornography platform Pornhub.
The decision was made after The New York Times published an investigation into the website and accused it of being "infested" with child abuse and sexual assault related videos.
"Our investigation over the past several days has confirmed violations of our standards prohibiting unlawful content on their site," Mastercard officials said in a statement. "We instructed the financial institutions that connect the site to our network to terminate acceptance."
Pornhub, which has denied the claims presented in the Times report, called Mastercard's announcement "exceptionally disappointing." The website reported 42 billion site visitors and 6.8 million videos uploads in 2019.
