Meek’s owner pens new acquisition

Posted online

Springfield-based American Construction Source, the company formed in 2018 to take over the operations of Meek’s Lumber Co., penned a new purchase deal.

The acquisition — the sixth for ACS — is for Homewood Holdings LLC, according to a news release. Financial terms were undisclosed.

“ACS is excited to add Homewood to our growing portfolio of service-oriented lumber and building materials locations,” ACS CEO James Drexinger said in the release, noting Homewood’s operations do business in central and northern California, the Seattle area and central Arizona.

Officials say Homewood Holdings’ brand names — Homewood Lumber, Evergreen Lumber, Eagle Creek Siding, Custom Choice Door and The Door Mill — will continue to be used.

ACS was created by Santa Monica, California, private investment firms Angeles Equity Partners LLC and Clearlake Capital Group LP to purchase Springfield-based Meek’s in September 2018.

At the time of the sale, Meek’s operated 54 stores in Missouri, Arkansas, Nevada and California, though ACS quickly moved to consolidate six Show-Me State locations. It closed the 3250 E. Sunshine St. store and consolidated its operations into the 1551 W. Mount Vernon St. location off of Kansas Expressway, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The Sunshine Street property has been razed to make way for Legacy Bank’s new headquarters.

Since the Meek’s purchase, ACS has been in acquisition mode with the purchases of Edwards Building Center and Breckenridge Building Center in Colorado; Arrow Building Center in Stillwater, Minnesota; Freeborn Lumber Co. in Albert Lea, Minnesota; and Contractor’s Truss Systems in Cotter, Arkansas, according to the company’s website.

ACS operates at 1311 E. Woodhurst Drive in the Woodhurst Office Park.
