Prosecutors yesterday levied new criminal charges against four Minneapolis police officers implicated in the death of George Floyd.
Derek Chauvin, who was jailed Friday on charges of third-degree murder and manslaughter, has now been charged with second-degree murder. Chauvin, 44, was the white officer seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck as Floyd gasped for air and repeatedly groaned, “Please, I can’t breathe.”
The three other officers at the scene, who were fired from the Minneapolis Police Department along with Chauvin, each were charged with aiding and abetting both second-degree murder and manslaughter.
Nationwide protests sparked by Floyd's death continue.
