Bourbon & Beale
Nearly two years after the restaurant’s initial projected opening, Bourbon & Beale began serving diners June 18 on the east side of Battlefield Mall. At 2639 S. Glenstone Ave., Bourbon & Beale is named after the famous streets in New Orleans and in Memphis, Tennessee, and the menu combines barbecue and Cajun flavors, said owner Michael Felts. He said more than 40 people staff the 4,900-square-foot restaurant, which occupies the former Newk’s Eatery. Felts purchased the Newk’s building in 2018 from its franchisee, Dan Garrett of Danco LLC. Felts declined to disclose startup costs or the rate of his 10-year ground lease with Battlefield Mall owner Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG). Felts said permitting and construction issues contributed to delays in the restaurant opening, which was initially planned for summer 2018. Po’boy sandwiches, gumbo and slow-cooked barbecue brisket are featured, with most entrees in the $9-$17 range. Restaurateur Felts also owns Hot Cluckers, opened in 2018, and he plans to launch Taco Habitat in Springfield and Branson.

Freedom Bank of Southern Missouri
Cassville-based Freedom Bank of Southern Missouri on June 12 finalized the purchase of Monett-based Community National Bank for undisclosed terms. The deal, announced in January, gives Freedom Bank a branch each in Monett and Aurora, both of which are set for conversion in August. It also expands Freedom Bank’s branch count to seven, including locations in Cassville, Golden, Seligman, Shell Knob and Willard. Freedom Bank is taking on roughly $138 million in Community National Bank assets and nearly $83 million in deposits. With the additions, Freedom Bank, led by President and CEO Stan Kelley, will have roughly $430 million in assets and $367 million in deposits.

Greene County Family Justice Center
The Greene County Family Justice Center moved June 8 to the former Teftt School at 1418 E. Pythian St. from the second floor of the Greene County Judicial Courts building, 1010 Boonville Ave. The center, started in 2018, provides victims of domestic and sexual violence with free services, including filing protection orders, legal services and crisis counseling. Project Coordinator Jamie Willis said 33 staff members from nine partner agencies, including Harmony House, Springfield Police Department and Legal Services of Southern Missouri, work in the facility. In July 2019, Springfield Public Schools sold the nearly 21,000-square-foot building as surplus property to Greene County for $10 as a future
Family Justice Center home. Building renovations cost $715,000, Willis said.

I had the pleasure of visiting Bourbon & Beale on opening day and the food is amazing. They've done a really good job with the menu and the service was great, especially for opening day. I highly encourage everyone to get by there for lunch or dinner, or both!
