When it comes to estate planning and long-term care planning, everyone knows they need a plan, but few people take the step towards action. The difference between success and the idea of success is knowing versus doing.

A new survey shows nearly 8 out of 10 Americans know that estate planning is important. Yet only 4 out of 10 have estate planning documents such as a Durable Power Of Attorney, a Will, or a Trust.

“People are aware of the need but so many fear the process unnecessarily. When the steps aren’t clear, it’s easy to put off,” says Lori Rook, owner and managing attorney of Ozarks Elder Law. “With nearly 50 combined years of experience,” Rook says, “our team has come to see that the burden of handling long-term care is the most overlooked part of planning.”

The Stakes Are High
Costs for care in a nursing home are approaching $100,000 a year. Many Americans spend their life savings when there are other options.

“We see an alarming number of people ask for help after it’s too late to preserve their life savings. Having the conversation just a year sooner can change everything,” says Lori.

Begin With A Single Step
Knowing versus doing. It’s not hard to get started, especially if you start planning early. Getting educated could save you from costly mistakes.
