Honking horns replaced clapping hands last night at Springfield Business Journal's 2021 40 Under 40 awards ceremony.

SBJ hosted a drive-in theater-themed event in the parking lot of Oasis Hotel & Convention Center on North Glenstone Avenue.

Honorees and guests in their cars tuned in to the show transmitted over FM airwaves by Southwest Audio-Visual. KOLR10's Jenifer Abreu and TJ Springer emceed the event, which featured honorees receiving their awards in their vehicles and prerecorded videos played on the screen.

Nearly 190 people attended the event. In lieu of traditional clapping, attendees honked their horns and flashed their headlights to celebrate the achievements of 40 young professionals in the Springfield area.

The event raised more than $13,000 for 40 Under 40 nonprofit partner United Way of the Ozarks.
