Retail customers can expect discounts on discretionary goods

Some retail chains are increasing promotions and lowering prices on merchandise to entice customers to move items off their shelves.

Walmart, Best Buy, Gap and Target, along with other chains and discount stores, stocked up on merchandise to prepare for supply chain shortages and anticipated continued customer demand. However, inflation and declining consumer confidence meant they were left with inventory that is moving at a sluggish rate.

The mispositioned inventory means shoppers can expect deals in discretionary goods like clothing, electronics and home goods.
