SBJ announces 12th class of Health Care Champions

Springfield Business Journal continues its tradition of honoring health care professionals in the Springfield area during November’s Health Care Champions awards event.

An independent panel of judges selected the recipients for the honor of Top Doctor, and chose additional professionals in four other fields: administrator, nurse, technician and therapist. The company awards are for Corporate Wellness Program of the Year, Long-term Care/Rehabilitation Facility of the Year and Provider of the Year.

This year’s Top Doctors honors go to Dr. Christina Capps, geriatrician at Citizens Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Alok Jain, medical director and psychiatrist at Eustasis Psychiatric and Addiction Health.

The Provider of the Year goes to CoxHealth, Springfield Public Schools was selected for the Corporate Wellness Program of the Year, and Select Specialty Hospital - Springfield Inc. was chosen as Long-term Care/Rehabilitation Facility of the Year.

The additional individual Health Care Champions, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Administrator: Angela King, executive vice president of operations at Burrell Behavioral Healt; Craig McCoy, president of Mercy Springfield Communities; and Shawn Sando, executive vice president of programs at Burrell Behavioral Health.
  • Nurse: Claire Dale, director of ICU and Telemetry at Citizens Memorial Hospital; DesiRey Prost, infusion center nurse at Mercy Cancer and Hematology; and Jennifer Ruit, triage nurse at CoxHealth Family Medicine and Obstetrics.
  • Technician: Kenneth Goodman, radiologic technologist at CoxHealth; Abby Strickfaden, pharmacy technician at CoxHealth; and David Wolfrath, executive director of pharmacy at Mercy Hospital Springfield.
  • Therapist: Allyson Beary, speech and language pathologist, assistive technology lead and therapy operations coordinator at TheraCare Outpatient Services LLC; Stephanie Robbins, RecoverED program coordinator at Burrell Behavioral Health; and Lisa Spore, co-owner and clinical director of Nixa Behavioral Services LLC.
