Thomas Edison described “good fortune” as the byproduct of opportunity and planning. He believed that opportunity, luck or smiling fates were all possible, and even likely, but also that they were more likely than not to pass you by if you weren’t prepared with a plan to take advantage of them when presented.
Springfield Business Journal’s five-year economic growth survey project is all about planning for the economic growth and prosperity of the current and future Springfield. Data is collected annually from Springfield’s business leaders in an effort to anticipate their future needs and wants. On the basis of that economic data, SBJ has already convened four community forum discussions this year and has two remaining forums slated for October. The most recent discussion took place on Wednesday morning, Sept. 15,w at Alamo Drafthouse and centered on local real estate and on present and future development.
In this special edition of Springfield Business Journal you will read about private and public development plans that span from five to 20 years into the future. You can gather insights into the circumstances, planning and positioning that are already bringing some of these plans to fruition. You will read about the aggressive 10-year expansion plan of SRC to build or acquire 3 million square feet of operations space. You will read about how some residential developers are finding and funding opportunities to flip and/or renovate and lease aging or distressed property in the current market. You will also get a glimpse of the 20-year Forward Springfield city-wide development plan and priorities. Likewise, you will read about some of the plans and priorities for the economic development and diversification of Christian County.
