State Rep. Steve Helms, R-Springfield, introduced legislation to tackle caller ID spoofing.
The practice masks the true identity of a phone number, instead making it look like it comes from a local number.
“We’ve all received calls that look like they’re coming from our own area code, but when we answer the phone it’s yet another annoying robocall. It’s time to take a stand against the unscrupulous individuals who run these scams as they attempt to defraud Missourians out of their hard-earned money,” Helms said.
His resolution would add call spoofing to Missouri's existing no-call list statute. It reportedly would give the state's attorney general more power to go after scammers and levy fines against them.

I favor the proposed legislation. The situation of "spoofing" has long been running amuck! The unscrupulous people earning a living making the calls need to get honest employment.
