Staying ahead of the curves in land development

Posted online

CJW Transportation Consultants offers the full spectrum when it comes to public and private land development services. “We’re with the client from the very beginning,” said Dane Seiler, President. “We help them figure out the right piece of property for their project and help develop the construction plans. We stay with them throughout construction, helping clients through various permitting hurdles to get their development up and running.”

Seiler says this commitment to see the entire development process through brings extra peace of mind for the client. “Clients want to know if their project is going to work before acquiring a site. They want to know if they’re going to be able to do what they want to do with that land. We can help them run through development layout scenarios prior to them making that huge investment of time and money.”

Many of CJW’s land development projects require surveying and the CJW land survey and mapping department offers a combination of field experience, meticulous attention to detail and an understanding of the client’s schedule and budget. CJW provides a variety of surveying services and including boundary surveys, construction staking, topographical surveys, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and geo database development.

To facilitate more in-depth topographical surveying, CJW has added drones to help its team provide surveying data more quickly and accurate than traditional methods. “Especially with larger, more challenging properties, this cuts down on the length of time it takes to get that information to our clients,” said Seiler. “We chose to make the investment so we could help our clients make better decisions as it relates to their projects.”

CJW staff members went through the required training and licensing process to operate the drones, which were added to the company’s arsenal in early 2022. “It’s a pretty amazing piece of technology,” said Seiler. CJW team members can set up a flight path for the drone without even leaving the office. “Then they go out into the field and hit a button and it essentially flies that pattern and picks up all the pertinent information. It’s been extremely beneficial to our clients.”

“This is state of the art equipment that helps us accelerate CJW’s evaluation of potential development sites for our clients,” mentioned Seiler. “Being able to provide our clients with accurate topography and utilities information early in the evaluation process is often critical to the overall success of a development.”
