The American Royal canceled this year's World Series of Barbecue, its largest annual fundraiser that brings in hundreds of competitors worldwide.
The Kansas City barbecue event last year attracted more than 470 teams.
The nonprofit American Royal cited the coronavirus pandemic in canceling the competition. It's slated to return next year.
