“I started with no working capital. My husband came back from Afghanistan and his job was gone, so he went back to Iraq for a year,” says Nanette Willis, owner of Sassy’s Goodies L.L.C. in Springfield, Mo. It’s difficult for her to buy ingredients to make dog treats while waiting for payment from the previous order. Willis says she started production after losing one of her dogs to diabetic complications. She decided it was her duty to educate others about what’s in their treats so their pets can live longer, healthier lives.
