Project description: Bluebird Underground LLC, Springfield’s only colocation data center, is growing through an aggressive capital improvement plan, officials say. The expansion includes 25,000 square feet for a Tier III data center, 6 megawatts of underground generation and a cooling system, which leverages the mine environment and physical protections underground. Officials say the improvements better prepare the company for national trends in hosting, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Mike McSwain Architect LLC (Shreveport, Louisiana) is the project architect, and Olsson Inc. is the civil engineer.
Plaza Shopping Center gained an arcade with the March 1 opening of The Flying Lap LLC; the repurposing of space operated by Burrell Behavioral Health resulted in the March 18 opening of the company’s second autism center; and a group of downtown business owners teamed up to reopen J.O.B. Public House.
