The Springfield Sports Commission has secured a basketball event that's expected to bring a local economic impact of $1 million.

The event, called NXTPRO Hoops Series, is scheduled July 5-7, 2024, in Springfield, according to a news release.

"Springfield and the surrounding area have always been known for their appreciation of basketball, and this event should further illustrate southwest Missouri’s love of basketball," said Lance Kettering, Springfield Sports Commission executive director, in the release.

Games would be played at The Clubhouse and The Fieldhouse in Springfield, as well as the Strafford Sports Center.

Roughly 95% of the NXTPRO Hoops Series teams are coming from out of town, according to the release. They're expected to generate 1,500 room nights at area hotels along with the $1 million economic impact.

"Springfield has always had a rich basketball culture and a reputation for supporting basketball events. We thank the Springfield Sports Commission and appreciate their commitment to making the event successful," said Matt Reynolds, president of NXTPRO, in the release.

Lincoln, Nebraska-based NXTPRO, founded in 2021, has over 400 programs and around 1,200 teams.
