Benzene has been detected in some Banana Boat sunscreen products, which have been recalled.
The recall affected Banana Boat’s Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30, which is sold in aerosol cans.
Edgewell Personal Care Co., which manufactures Banana Boat products, said benzene is not used in Banana Boat products, but trace amounts were caused by the propellent that distributes the product in its packaging, according to a press release from the company.
Benzene can cause drowsiness, irregular heartbeat, tremors, confusion and, at high levels, death, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
