The Better Business Bureau is estimating $3.1 million in losses from rising cases of pet scams this year.
The consumer watchdog nonprofit estimates up to 4,300 scams will have occurred by year's end. That's higher than the 2018 and 2019 figures combined.
Officials cited scammers' efforts to attempt to take money from victims amid stay-at-home orders.
