Designing a People-First Mindset + Development

Kinetic Design

Culture
The culture of Kinetic Design is based on the belief that “People are our purpose.”, a phrase which embodies the impetus that led to the founding of the architecture and design firm last year.

“We purposely set out to create a firm that demonstrates our commitment to people first and foremost – above accolades or profit margins,” said architect and COO Abbye Bobbett. “We are a relationship-driven team, and it shows in how we partner with our clients. This way of doing business isn’t new, but it’s rare and, we believe, valuable.”

“We used the people-first mindset as a framework for conversations about our core values. In a workshop with our entire staff, we collaborated to identify who we are currently and who we endeavor to be, using those admirable qualities to fashion our unique core values.”

Sustainability and community are intertwined.
“By nature architects strive to create spaces which are environmentally friendly and sustainable whenever possible. We have a LEED-certified partner with a passion for innovation,” said Bobbett. This passion led to hosting Think Tank Thursdays, a monthly power hour where the Kinetic team brainstorms innovative solutions to both internal and external issues.

It was that collaborative space which led to the design of a quarterly give-back program called Kinetic Kares, in which the Kinetic team partners with local charities either through volunteerism or donations. “We also have a goal to prioritize local architectural projects in order to engage professionally with the neighborhoods in which we live and work,” said Bobbett. These action items were not born at the prompting of partners, but rather organic requests from staff, leading to an overall company culture which actively looks for ways to contribute ethically and sustainably to the community.

What sets Kinetic Design apart?
While Kinetic Design offers generous health benefits and fosters continuing education there are a few things that set it apart from most architectural firms. These include:
A four-day work week
Paid holidays including the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
PTO available to use upon the first date of employment and is increased on a 2-year and 5-year basis to reward tenured loyalty
Smart-casual dress code policy
Paid parental leave
Remote, in-office and hybrid schedules
“We pride ourselves on an amazing culture with an open-door policy where everyone has a voice and is encouraged to express themselves,” said Bobbett.
