“I had some money that was left from my inheritance from my father, and the rest of the financing I got through a home equity loan,” says John Twomey, owner of Bits of Britain Cafe. Twomey says you should consider whether doing the work yourself is actually cheaper than hiring a professional. “Look very carefully at the balance between the speed and efficiency of getting your work done versus the amount of money you save by not paying somebody else,” says Twomey.
