Creating workplace culture is a large part of what the team at Grooms Office Environments does every day. The belief is that thoughtful planning and design of a company’s workplace leads to more creativity and productivity, which can greatly influence the development of that company’s culture.

That cultivation of culture carries over into the everyday workings at Grooms.
Owner of the company Jonathan Garard, alongside his wife and co-owner Audrey, stresses that Grooms has a team culture centered on always doing the right thing.

“Setting the standard of doing what is right above all, impacts the decisions we make with our clients and how we deal with each other internally and drives us to be exceptional in our community,” says Garard. “That culture can only grow from trust, and that means going through highs and lows together and proving we can do the right thing in those moments.”

Grooms is staffed with a mix of interior designers, sales, office staff and installers. Sales and design teams commonly work together but there are also team members that work individually, dependent on what is best for each project. “Being a small company, we’re fortunate to have amazing staff that are flexible and willing to jump in whenever needed to make sure we’re delivering the best product and customer service to our clients,” says Garard.

Owners Jonathan and Audrey also proactively work to create a family-focused environment in the workplace. “We wholeheartedly believe that family and personal health, both physical and mental, come first and if those aren’t taken care of, the team suffers.” Garard continues with an example, “It’s the little things. When there are dangerous road conditions due to winter weather, it’s common for us to give our employees a late start.” Being able to work from home if a child is sick or taking the time needed for medical concerns are other examples of thoughtful acts Grooms does to provide a family approach to creating a better work/life balance.

“From day one, we have made a conscious decision to promote a community culture with our employees,” says Garard. “We make an effort to celebrate and give back as a team and know taking time away from the office fosters the balance we all need for a well-rounded life.” From their annual 4th of July BBQs to delivering Christmas baskets to assisted living homes, Grooms consciously takes time to close the office throughout the year for various celebrations that positively impact the culture that’s attracting people to work there.

Garard considers each Grooms team member critical to everyday success and believes the team must count on each other to truly succeed. “We want each employee to have a real sense of belonging,” he says. “We recognize team and individual achievements and always take the time to share those successes among each other. We are a ‘family comes first’ company that values the employee and their needs above all else. We have fun, work hard, play hard, create amazing spaces and solve real problems for our partners.”
