Open for Business: Dean’s Boytique

Posted online

Dean’s Boytique
Formerly an e-commerce venture selling boys’ clothing for the past three years, Dean’s Boytique expanded Sept. 16 to a brick-and-mortar location. Owner Shelby Bolin said startup costs were $20,000 for the shop at 2776 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. B, in the Village Shopping Center. Bolin said she started selling clothes for boys out of her home after her son, Dean, was born in 2020. She said opening a store was a natural way to expand her business, adding she signed a two-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Magers Management Co. LLC for the roughly 1,500-square-foot space. Bolin leads the four-employee boutique, which sells a variety of boys’ clothing, shoes and accessories for ages ranging from newborn to 7 years old. At the shop, she also added a women’s clothing section targeting mothers. Dean’s Boytique features luxury boy’s baby clothing brands, such as Angel Dear and Mayoral, along with some items designed by Bolin. Prices mostly range $19-$160.

Trailer Perk Coffee
Trailer Perk Coffee LLC owner Amber Ottoson said she realized a business dream with the Sept. 18 opening of her shop in northwest Springfield. She had previously operated Trailer Perk for six years as a mobile coffee business before launching the brick-and-mortar spot at 2848 W. Chestnut Expressway. The site is the original home of Red’s Giant Hamburg, which shuttered in 1984 after nearly 50 years of business on Route 66. Ottoson, who purchased the Chestnut Expressway land for an undisclosed price, employs a nine-person staff at the 480-square-foot shop, which includes dual drive-thru lanes and a menu she said expands upon drinks sold out of the trailer, such as smoothies. Prices range $2.50-$6.50. Startup costs were undisclosed for the shop, built by Ottoson’s husband, Peter, and Bruner Construction LLC and designed by Hood-Rich Inc. As she turns her focus full time to the new shop, Ottoson said she sold the trailer in early August.

Glide Xpress
After making its Queen City debut in the spring, the second car wash for Glide Xpress opened July 26 at 211 W. Battlefield Road. The car wash chain owner, Texarkana, Texas-based Glide Xpress Principal Group, has opened six shops in four states since 2020, with an additional 30 locations, including one in Branson, listed on its website as coming soon. A shuttered Gem of India restaurant was demolished at the Battlefield Road site to make way for construction of the 4,175-square foot shop, said Glide Xpress spokesperson Christopher Barrett. He declined to disclose startup costs. Barrett said seven employees work at the car wash, which is led by manager Jonathan Saunders. Barrett said single washes at Glide Xpress begin at $10 and unlimited car wash plans cost $25 and $30 per month. Customers also have free access to high-pressure air hose drying stalls and vacuums. Springfield’s first Glide Xpress opened in April at 3015 E. Sunshine St.
