Modern Outdoor Tackle
Nearly three years after launching, fishing retail shop Modern Outdoor Tackle LLC moved Sept. 1 to larger space in Nixa. Owner Westin Yancey said the 4,500-square-foot store at 1362 N. Bryan Drive in Eagle Plaza, near U.S. Highway 160, is triple the size of the previous spot on Mount Vernon Street. He invested $150,000 on relocation and renovation costs and signed a two-year lease for an undisclosed rate with JNM Realty Group LLC. Yancey said foot traffic is up roughly 25% since the September move. As he did at the Mount Vernon Street location, Yancey continues to run his Modern Outdoor Media LLC digital marketing company out of the storefront, noting the venture’s services include graphic design and website creation for clients such as Angler Aid and G3 Boats. The 10-employee Modern Outdoor Tackle sells fishing equipment and accessories, including baits, lines, reels, rods, tackle boxes and apparel. Fishing lines range $5-$76, while rods are $30-$475, according to the store’s website.

Healthy Spot
Healthy Spot LLC, a shop that primarily serves protein shakes and teas, opened July 1 at 2900 S. Fremont Ave., Ste. A. It’s the second store with a similar menu for owner Bridgette Cummings, who has also owned The Healthy Edge LLC since 2019. Cummings said startup costs were $40,000, adding she signed a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Moreno Group LLC. Cummings leads the staff of 10 at the 1,500-square-foot Healthy Spot, which also serves protein-based iced coffees and gluten- and dairy-free waffles and acai bowls. She said prices for most items range $8-$11. Cummings, who moved to Missouri in 2017 from California, purchased her first shop for $18,000 from Bryan Vanwinkle. Revenue for The Healthy Edge was $650,000 in 2022. Cummings also is a distributor of Herbalife Nutrition Ltd. (NYSE: HLF), which produces protein-based powder formulas, boosters and supplements. She said Herbalife stipulates that her recipes contain at least 50% of the company’s products.

Strong Law
Longtime Springfield law firm Strong, Garner & Bauer PC changed names and moved its office Nov. 3. Officials say the firm’s new name of Strong Law PC pays homage to company founder Tom Strong, who started the business in 1976. Neil Chanter, a 25-year attorney in the firm, said the company moved to Hammons Tower, 901 St. Louis St., from its 15-year home at 415 E. Chestnut Expressway. He said Strong Law occupies 19,000 square feet across the 17th and 18th floors in Hammons Tower. He declining to disclose relocation and renovation costs or the rate of the firm’s five-year lease. Chanter said the space previously was occupied by Husch Blackwell LLP’s Springfield office, which relocated in 2022 to 3810 E. Sunshine St. He said Strong Law, which specializes in personal injury cases, employs eight attorneys, including Strong, Steven Garner and Jeff Bauer, among its 30-person staff.
