Warner Bros. Discovery says it is resetting its DC cinematic university and setting up a team with a 10-year plan for the franchise following the shelving of the completed film “Batgirl,” according to CEO David Zaslav.
The company spent $90 million on the film. The cast included Oscar winner J.K. Simmons and Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton. Yet earlier this week a source told the New York Post it was irredeemable.
With Warner Bros. Discovery in cost-cutting mode, studio officials feared the straight-to-streaming release would not recoup its costs. The company decided to use the production as a tax write-down.
