Jordan Valley Community Health Center President and CEO Brooks Miller, left, talks about funding challenges during Springfield Business Journal’s 12 People You Need to Know live interview with Editor Eric Olson on Nov. 19. As a federally qualified health center, Miller said Jordan Valley gets about 10% of its $50 million annual budget from the government. The clinic’s federal funding is secured for another month through a Congress-approved short-term initiative known as a continuing resolution. “I think we’ll go through CRs all the way through the election of 2020,” he said.

FIRST GIFT
Northwestern Mutual financial representative Chuck Dow on Oct. 30 presents a $5,000 check to Borrow My Angel board Treasurer Jill White. Officials say the money will help the organization create resources for individuals struggling with mental illness, depression or suicidal thoughts. Borrow My Angel, which Dow founded and serves as president, provides volunteers to act as a listening ear to those in need through online connections and resources. Dow is part of Northwestern Mutual’s RPS Financial Group Inc., which has created an initiative to give to nonprofits. The donation represents the first by RPS Cares.
