I Had to Prove Myself, Mother and Partner Offer Inspiration

When my business partner, Pete Christodoulou, passed away I faced one of the most difficult decisions of my career, choosing to jump into the position of president and taking the reins of the company.

It was unexpected and things were thrown at me, people took advantage of me, and some were down right degrading to me. I knew at that point in time I had to prove myself and show the rest of the world that I was able to rise to the challenge and continue building on what we had started.

My mother taught me to be strong, honest, and an independent thinker. Although, sometimes she probably thought she wasn’t succeeding, she taught me more than she knows.

My previous partner, Pete, had a laid-back style of leading but everyone worked well under him. His honesty and charisma were enveloping.

That is how I lead: strong and determined, but with passion and empathy for my clients and staff.

Being a business owner also requires an undying commitment. You have to be on 100% of the time to ensure your staff does the same. You can’t phone it in. You have to put forth all effort to reap any benefits.

Loyalty is reciprocal. People are loyal to you if you treat them with honesty and are loyal to them. Keeping good staff is a challenge. When you focus on developing long-term relationships with them, you offer them the tools they need to help in the success of the business and to keep great clients.
